At the request of Pennsylvania Administrative Bishop Rodney Jeffords, the World Missions leadership team will be conducting a local missions representative (LMR) seminar in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Prayer Conference convening on March 6-7, 2008. Bishop Jeffords has chosen “Reaching Our World for Christ” as the theme of this meeting which will take place at the Spring Valley Church of God in Reading, PA.

Last fall, Sara Sloan, a journalism student at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, contacted the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), after she had been denied an occupational journalism certificate. Despite Sloan being an honor student, a panel of professors who reviewed her work denied her certificate on the basis of strong Christian themes in many of her articles.

Kathy and I thank you for your prayers during this time of transition. In many ways, moving to Manaus has been like starting all over again, and bears many similarities to 1984 when we first arrived in Brazil.

I just returned from a medical missions ministry trip to Central America, visiting Guatemala and Honduras for the first time.

Millions were inspired by the stirring, visceral account of Lt. General Hal Moore’s Vietnam war experience as told in the New York Times #1 bestseller We Were Soldiers Once…And Young. The major motion picture adaptation, We Were Soldiers, was hailed by many as “one of the best war movies ever made.” But there is so much more to the story.

For those who may not know my story, I will share a short summary, and then make some comparisons concerning second deployments. I attended the Church of God Theological Seminary, Cleveland, Tennessee, from fall 2000 to spring 2004. During that time I worked full-time took a full-time load and was commissioned as an Army Reservist through the Chaplain Candidate program.
