The International Committee on Nigeria (ICON), a nonprofit working to secure a future for all Nigerians, released a statement today, applauding a new executive order signed by President Trump advancing international religious freedom. The order directs the U.S. Department of State (DOS) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to take action to combat religious freedom violations and calls for a budget of at least $50 million for programs to fight religious violence and persecution abroad and protect religious minorities.

Over the past two decades, I’ve spent much of my time overseas. I’ve visited 40 countries so far, and I keep going back to some of the same nations because I’ve built close friendships with people from Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. Cleveland, TN–Church of God educational leaders from across the globe gathered by Zoom earlier this week in a historic meeting to discuss their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Called and moderated by Dr. David Ramirez, Assistant General Overseer and liaison to the Division of Education, more than 35 college and seminary leaders joined together in an open discussion about how God has changed their focus during this crisis.
