MY HOPE AMERICA was first celebrated in November 2013 to commemorate the world-renowned evangelist’s 95th birthday. Desiring to conduct “one more crusade,” but physically unable to do so, Mr. Graham conceded that the MY HOPE campaign would take the place of that crusade. The 2013 campaign was so successful with more than 26,000 churches participating and 110,000 people making a commitment to follow Christ, that the leadership of BGEA determined that it should be repeated this year.

Both of my grandfathers were Church of God pastors. My paternal grandfather, Hosea Newton Brides, pastored congregations in North Central Texas with his wife Hester Ellenor. My maternal grandfather, George Marion Bloomingdale and his wife Bertha were traveling evangelists. Bertha passed away in 1932 and is buried on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Early in her ministry Bertha started the ‘penny march’ to contribute to the funding of the Church of God orphanage.
