David Griffis, first assistant general overseer of the Church of God, and Director of the Division of Care, participated with the delegation to Oklahoma to present two checks to assist with disaster relief. Griffis was accompanied by General Overseer Mark L. Williams. Together the two church leaders met with local pastors, relief workers and families displaced by the tornado that ripped through the heart of Oklahoma.

An American tradition finds a new home and a new purpose; orphan children sell their own possessions to send aid to the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. On any given Saturday morning in America, there is a ritual throughout the land from early spring until almost winter, of families and neighbors hosting yard sales. This week, orphan children in Guatemala saw the devastation in Oklahoma and decided to bring this tradition of yard sales to Guatemala and use it to benefit the victims through Operation Compassion.

California’s state senate on Wednesday approved legislation that would remove tax-exempt status from nonprofit organizations like the Boy Scouts of America for refusing to allow openly homosexual adults. Senate Bill 323 would revoke tax-exempt status from any nonprofit youth organization, including private schools, that refuses to hire or allow as leaders anyone whose sexual conducts goes against their beliefs.

On April 4-6, I attended the Church of God European Leadership Conference in Budapest, Hungary. At this conference, 110 national overseers and educational leaders represented the Church of God from 51 nations. There were business sessions during the days and worship during the evenings.
