CoGPray is a social media-driven effort designed to be a place where the global Church of God community gathers to post needs, request prayer, and celebrate answered prayers. Participants can see who is in the group, what they post and are invited to join in prayer for needs around the globe.
“Nothing is more important for a Christian community than to know and realize the power of prayer,” stated Church of God General Overseer Gary Lewis. “We have a worldwide reach of over 10 million members, and it is my prayer that this initiative will unite us more than anything else we undertake. The Church of God has had many prayer initiatives through the years, but the goal of CoGPray is to create an interactive community where requests and praise reports can be shared globally, illustrating the wonderful effect of prayer engagement.”
A soft launch of CoGPray took place last week at the Empowered Leadership Meeting, a biennial gathering of the Council of Eighteen, International Offices leadership, and state/regional administrative bishops, youth directors, and evangelism directors. A formal social media push was released on September 29 and 1,300 have joined the movement so far. It is not intended for promotion of events or ministries, and the site will be monitored to keep the emphasis solely on prayer.
