What’s on the Bible movie roster for 2015/2016? NBC will air “A.D.” beginning Easter Sunday with a new cast (white, black and middle-eastern actors) portraying Jesus, John and Mary Magdalene. In a Christian Post article (November 6, 2014) Mary Magdalene (Chipo Chung) is referred to as the one who “works tirelessly to keep the movement (Christianity) going amidst all the challenges.” This strange belief derives from non-biblical, Gnostic texts (The Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Mary Magdalene) which include a power struggle between Peter and Mary Magdalene. Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Jesus” stars Muslim actor Haaz Sleiman as Jesus, an online controversy, but prepare for a greater concern – abbreviated crucifixion scenes. Bill O’Reilly stated on “Fox and Friends” (September 2013) that the words of the crucified Jesus are unknown due to the proximity of the mourners. Presumably John, present at Golgotha, fabricated his gospel. Contradictorily “Killing Jesus” chapter eighteen includes Jesus’ words from the cross, “I thirst” (John 19:28) and “it is finished” (John 19:30).
Upcoming Bible films also include “Pontius Pilate” starring atheist Brad Pitt, a David and Goliath film starring wrestler Jerry Sokoloski (Goliath), and “Clavius” about a Roman investigator (Joseph Fiennes) commissioned by Pontius Pilate to find the body of Jesus. Two Mary films, deeply influenced by Vatican and Gnostic texts, are due for release in theaters and churches.
