“Making this album reminded me that I don’t make a very good king of my own life,” shares West. “The good news is, I don’t have to be. Every song on this record is a reminder of who Jesus is and what happens when we surrender our lives to Him. My prayer is that these songs help people discover the freedom, hope and peace that come from letting Jesus take His rightful place on the throne of our hearts.”
West wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs around a single prompt: “Jesus is ___,” with each song offering an answer. “Don’t Give Up On Me” speaks to His faithfulness, even to those who fear they’ve failed too many times. Christian radio single “Back To Jesus” reminds listeners that no matter how far they’ve wandered, Jesus is always the way home. The album closes with a reprise of “Jesus Is King,” returning to the declaration that opened it: no matter what is happening in the world, Jesus is still on the throne.
West recently notched his 40th No. 1 as an artist and songwriter with a co-write on Jon Reddick’s “Holding On (Praise God).” He is bringing Jesus Is King to fans across the country on his 17-stop tour and has announced an April 25, 2027 show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, with more dates to come. Ryman tickets go on sale to the general public Oct. 5.
