Cleveland, TN—The biennial gathering of the Church of God International Council begins this Sunday, September 22 at the International Offices in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The Church of God International Executive Committee has designated the second Sunday in October as Hispanic Heritage Sunday. This coincides with the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15 and extends to October 15.
The VITAL Initiative has been formally introduced to the Church of God with the endorsement of Presiding Bishop Dr. Mark Williams in a video interview with its founder and director, Michael Nations. The Vital Initiative is a ministry to, and movement among, the pastors of smaller churches. It presents a new paradigm of ministry that places high priority on the importance of small churches in Kingdom work in the 21st century.
The yearly celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15. In September 1968, the United States Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week. It was observed during the week that included September 15 and 16. Then, in 1989, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to thirty days from September 15 to October 15. This was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.
