Support Group for Parents of Teens and Tweens, Launches Webcast
Parents of Teens and Tweens (POTTS), a support group that helps Christian parents come together and learn to successfully parent their teens and tweens, will hold its national launch by live webcast September 20, at 7:00 p.m. CDT. “We’re excited to expand this ministry,” said Pastor Doug Cherry, co-founder of POTTS, “to help parents encourage one another and take their God-given place as the primary influence in their teens’ and tweens’ lives.”
POTTS is a ministry of Frontline Family Ministries, and Teen Mania Ministries is an affiliated supporter of POTTS. “Unifying parents today is key to winning the battle for this generation,” said Teen Mania President Ron Luce.
During the 60 minute webcast, founders Doug and Lisa Cherry will share the latest research confirming the vital influence of parents in teens’ lives, explain the path to a successful faith hand-off to the next generation, and demonstrate how to conduct a local POTTS support group. Local groups and families can request a link for the webcast at POTTS.
The POTTS launch coincides with release of co-founder Doug Cherry’s book, Stick! Making the Handoff to the Next Generation. In Stick!, Cherry shares stories from his parenting experiences and explains the rationale for POTTS.
“Teens and young adults from Christian families are opting out of the faith they have grown up with in record numbers,” explained Lisa Cherry, “and their parents are in anguish over the choices their children are making.” POTTS was formed out the Cherrys’ experience of parenting a child in crisis and rebellion. Nine years ago, they discovered that their teen daughter Kalyn was in a secret, sexually abusive relationship with a 46 year-old man. Ms. Cherry documented their story in Kalyn’s Secret.
POTTS was founded by Doug and Lisa Cherry, parents of ten children and grandparents of three, who are pastors and youth leaders in Carbondale, Illinois. They have connected with over 6,000 parents in 32 cities as parent support speakers for Teen Mania’s Acquire the Fire conferences, where they conduct regional POTTS events.
