Doors Opening to Chaplaincy Ministry in Europe

Bob and Caroline Schmidt, missionaries to Romania, report on the opening doors of opportunity for chaplaincy ministry in several European and African countries.

At the end of October we were in Debrecen, Hungary, for the first of many chaplaincy training seminars. This seminar was an introduction to chaplaincy and the response was phenomenal. We had several denominations represented, both men and women attending for a total of about 25 people. Plans are in the making for a level one class in December where we are expecting 45 people to attend. Please pray for this great opportunity.

At the beginning of November, we had the first level one training ever held in England. The training was held at the New Testament Church of God facility in Gloucester, England. We had chaplains introductory courses held in England before, but never a full-blown seminar. It was history in the making. While teaching the class, the police superintendent came and told the students that the police department in Gloucester is waiting for them to begin their chaplaincy work. The police are excited at the prospect of having a trained team of individuals to work with. Sixteen students were trained, and we are already planning another training event for February.

Finally, again in November, we had chaplaincy training in Gambia in the west of Africa. What a wonderful bunch of people. They were so excited about the training that they already asked us to come back to Gambia, Ghana, and Nigeria. God is opening so many doors for us.
