ECFA Releases New Governance Toolbox Series
ECFA has announced the first release of the Governance Toolbox Series to recruit nonprofit ministry board members and to train them with the best practices in governance. Toolbox No. 1: “Recruiting Board Members: Leveraging the 4 Phases of Board Recruitment” launches the series of DVD-based, multimedia resources to guide organizations in financial governance.
“The new ECFA Governance Toolbox Series addresses the emerging changes and expectations of nonprofit ministry board members, CEOs and senior team staff members,” said Dan Busby, ECFA president. “Its Christ-centered approach to governance practices is targeted to inspire leaders of churches and other faith-based organizations in their most challenging issues.”
Governance is one of the ECFA Seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship™. These principles, based on Scripture, form the foundation of financial integrity for accreditation within ECFA. Each organization must be governed by a responsible board that meets specific criteria. The new Toolbox Series assists faith-based nonprofit organizations and churches in achieving effective governance.
“Recruiting Board Members: Leveraging the 4 Phases of Board Recruitment” addresses the phases of board recruitment (cultivation, recruitment, orientation and engagement), discerning appropriate board member qualifications and criteria and cultivating Christ-centered board prospects.
The format of the multimedia resource series takes an intentionally quick, to-the-point approach for today’s multitasking board members. Each kit is arranged for three potential methodologies, adaptable to each organization’s needs and time constraints. In one methodology, a 10-minute DVD presentation plus a 10-minute discussion can equal immediate engagement.
Each Toolbox kit contains one DVD, one facilitator guide with three discussion options and methodologies, and 12 “Read-and-Engage” viewing guides for board members.
Additional Toolbox Series resources are currently being developed. Toolbox Series No. 2: “Balancing Board Roles: Understanding the 3 Board Hats — Governance, Volunteer and Participant” will be available by the end of 2012.
Pricing per kit is $79 for members and $149 for non-members, plus $5 shipping and handling. Additional sets of six viewing guides are $14.95 for members and $19.95 for non-members.
