Missionaries Close to Opening Clinic in Honduras
After struggles in getting the governmental permission needed to fully open the Vessels of Mercy Clinic, the Lord has given us favor and, with donor support, we are hoping to open the doors to the community within the next couple of months here in Honduras.By Paul and Kimberly Dyar, Church of God missionaries
The vision came around 2006 after the son of one of our local Church of God pastors was struck by a car and died, because there was no place prepared to offer the medical care he needed. Here on the island, our one public hospital is a government-run facility and the doctors are frequently on strike or unavailable. If one is able to see a doctor, they still lack basic resources needed to meet needs.
The Lord provided a way for us to navigate the legal process of getting the government’s permission to open the clinic on a full-time basis. We also are in the process of partnering with the Church of God hospital on the mainland of Honduras to acquire a doctor so we can open as soon as the other needs are met.
With any endeavor of this magnitude, raising the start-up funds is often the hardest part. In order to open our doors, we need a nurse, receptionist, cleaner, and doctor on staff. Prior to opening, we also need to stock the clinic with medicine, supplies, and equipment. Our goal is to be self-sustaining within six months, but until that time, we need approximately $2,000 each month for operating costs.
Would you consider partnering with us to raise the funds needed to open the clinic doors?
We are hoping to raise at least $12,000 to cover the initial operating costs of the clinic for the first six months, in addition to seeking the medicine, supplies, and equipment needed to provide the quality healthcare the island desperately lacks. Once the vision is realized, the Vessels of Mercy Clinic will be the only trauma center on the islands of Honduras.
We cannot express our excitement at the thought of not only ministering to the immense physical needs of the people, but to have the opportunity to make an everlasting impact on the hearts and souls of those who will be served through this clinic.
