Ashcroft to Kick Off Assembly Prayer Emphasis
Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft will headline a morning prayer event the day before the start of the 2014 Church of God International General Assembly in Orlando, Fla.
On Monday, July 28, the Prayer Ministry Celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. The gathering will be the initial event of a series of prayer activities surrounding the general assembly, which begins Tuesday, July 29 and concludes Friday, August 1, 2014. The site is the Orange County Convention Center on International Drive in Orlando.
Ashcroft is the son of a Pentecostal preacher who rose to prominence as governor of Missouri for two terms (1985-1993) before winning a Senate seat from that state and serving from 1995-2001. He was appointed United States Attorney General under President George W. Bush, serving from 2001-2005.
Following the July 28 celebration, the Prayer Room at the general assembly will be open 7:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Tuesday-Friday. Special early morning prayer time will be held at 7:00 a.m. and there will be small prayer groups throughout the day, noon and dinner time prayer gatherings.
“We want to encourage everyone to bring a van-load and pray for the nations!” said Doug Small, Church of God International Prayer Ministries Coordinator. “We will share and introduce new prayer resources, and hear reports about prayer from across the nation and around the world!” Small also said there will be prayer for the nations, with and for missionaries, social and cultural needs, unreached people groups, and for a global spiritual awakening.
Small confirmed the Ashcroft event is free, but a ticket is required to attend. To register, and to learn more about other prayer events in the Church of God, visit www.praycog.org.
“You will rarely have a better opportunity to train your people in prayer than by coming to the General Assembly and spending a day in the prayer room,” Small concluded.
