Lee University Preparing for ‘Lee Day’
Lee University will host its annual Lee Day on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5. The weekend will be full of events and activities geared toward prospective students and their families.
The 30-hour spread of non-stop activities will include campus tours, early class selection, athletic events, music, and featured classes, along with informational sessions for parents about financial aid.
“For a student interested in seeing what Lee has to offer, there is no single better time to visit than Lee Day,” said Danny Murray, chair of the Lee Day steering committee. “These 30 hours will offer the entire range from campus tours, meeting students and registering for classes.”
Among the features offered is “Lee U Spotlight” which takes place Friday evening. This event will feature highlights of several campus musical ensembles, award-winning short films, and alumni and athletes stories.
Also on Friday afternoon, visitors can attend “Music in the Air” featuring several of Lee’s musical ensembles that will perform in venues around campus. Dinner will be provided in the Deacon Jones Dining Hall for all attendees following the performances, with a block party later that evening and desserts for everyone.
Guests will have an opportunity to watch an alumni soccer match on Friday at 3 p.m. Prospective students will also have a chance to meet the coaches of Lee’s various athletic teams.
“Major Discovery,” hosted by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Debbie Murray, provides students with a panorama of Lee’s academic offerings and can help them decide on a major.
Lee Theatre will present Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” on Friday evening. This comedic play combines elements of robust hilarity with more serious topics of honor, shame and court politics.
On Saturday there will be a special luncheon just for high school students as well as a transfer student luncheon and an alumni luncheon. “Life at Lee,” a light-hearted look at campus life, will also be on Saturday followed by a cookout.
The weekend will conclude with a worship rally featuring President Paul Conn, Voices of Lee and Lee’s chapel worship band, followed by eight scholarship award drawings.
Local high school students, parents and youth groups are encouraged to attend and participate. Registration will begin at noon on Friday and will continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
