Center for Latino Studies Dedicates New Library With Over 6,000 Volumes
Cleveland, TN—The journey of a growing library with over 6,000 volumes continued this week, as the collection found a new home at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary’s Center for Latino Studies (CLS). The Seminary dedicated a new library and resource center at the CLS’ location at 740 Walker Street NE in Cleveland, Tennessee last week.
The collection included in the dedication began in 1976 with the establishment of the Church of God’s Ministerial Institute in Houston, Texas. Over time, the collection grew as it transitioned to other institutions including the West Coast Bible College in Fresno, California and the Hispanic Institute of Ministry in Dallas, Texas.

In late April 2014, the Center for Latino Studies received permission to acquire the collection, primarily comprised of Spanish-language books, and brought it to their Cleveland location. Portions of the Center’s building were reallocated as a library and shelving was assembled to accommodate the large collection, which is presently valued at over $85,000.00.
“To be entrusted with this large collection of books once again affirms that the Church of God is placing emphasis on the theological training of Hispanic pastors,” said Dr. Wilfredo Estrada-Adorno, Director of the Center for Latino Studies. “The establishment of this library has been a collaborative effort of Hispanic ministries across the country and is an eloquent testimony of their collective commitment to the ministerial formation of pastors and leaders.”
Since the acquisition of the collection, current titles have also been added and additional donations have been received from the academic and Latino community.

USA Hispanic Educational Ministries (USA HEM) New Home for Library
WHEREAS: The Hispanic Educational Ministries in the United States, as the official voice of education at all levels in the Latino context of the Church of God and as the national agency of its Division of Education, commemorates the sacrificial efforts through the history of more than 65 years, consisting of the promotion and initiation of ministerial development, permanent comprehensive training, discipleship, and general education programs; and
WHEREAS: We want to fulfill one of the most important missionary tasks of USA HEM which is the godly passion to perpetuate doctrines and sound Bible Pentecostal practices through a U.S. Hispanic cultural identity that manifests a faithful witness to God, others, and the society at large; and
WHEREAS: We affirm that USA HEM serves as the official liaison to lead, facilitate and unify within a cooperative platform with the support of the eight Hispanic regions in the United States and other Hispanic outreach groups, in order to broaden the scope of initiatives such as ministerial, theological programs, and general education to effectively address cultural, religious, and moral challenges of the Latino generations; and
WHEREAS: We are aware of the valuable contribution specifically made by the previously closed Hispanic Institute of Ministries, formerly located in Dallas, Texas, leaving a meaningful historical legacy supported by documents inherited in the form of a library, which has been under the management and care of USA HEM since 2006; and
WHEREAS: We emphasize the importance of strategically impacting all Hispanics through the recognition of spiritual experiences of heroes of the faith in Christ embossed in the academic literature, in addition to continue handing over the non-negotiable biblical-doctrinal content that offer continuity and solidarity to the processes of formation of believers, as well as leading Hispanic servants in this country; consequently, the Pentecostal Theological Seminary is one of the educational institutions of our movement whose main mission is to preserve the Pentecostal heritage, and having expressed direct interest in contributing to the care of the legacy of this literary Latino collection;
THEREFORE: THIS SERVANT, ENRIQUE A. DE JESUS, THE USA HISPANIC EDUCATIONAL MINISTRIES DIRECTOR, under the authority that God has conferred on me, with the consent of the Hispanic Education National Board comprised of Fidencio Burgueño, Juan A. García, Ángel Marcial, Carlos Morán (ex-officio), David Munguía, Efraín Navas, Rigoberto Ramos, Samuel Santana (President), Miguel A. Vega, and the Division of Education Executive Director and Church of God Second Assistant General overseer, Bishop J. David Stephens, proclaims the OFFICIAL TRANSFER OF THE USA HEM LIBRARY, previously housed at the Hispanic Institute of Ministry, to its new home at the Church of God Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Tennessee, where that heritage will be under the care and management of the Center for Latino Studies, providing access to all Church of God Hispanics and other sister denominations studying in some of our institutions or educational programs. I now encourage the interested entities and social media, to recognize and disclose this event of public interest activities.
El Centro para Estudios Latinos Dedicará Nueva Biblioteca con más de 6,000 Volúmenes
Cleveland, TN—El trayecto de una biblioteca en crecimiento con más de 6,000 volúmenes continuará esta semana, mientras la colección de libros encuentra una nueva casa en el Centro para Estudios Latinos (CEL) del Seminario Teológico Pentecostal. El Seminario estará dedicando una nueva biblioteca y un centro de recursos en la localidad del CEL en el 740 Walker Street NE en Cleveland, Tennessee a las 4:00 p.m. el jueves 8 de Mayo del 2014.
La colección de libros incluida en la dedicación comenzó en 1976 con la fundación de Instituto Ministerial de la Iglesia de Dios en Houston, Texas. Con el tiempo, la colección creció ya que paso a otras instituciones incluyendo al West Coast Bible College en Fresno, California y al Instituto Ministerial Hispano en Dallas, Texas.
A finales de abril del 2014, el Centro para Estudios Latinos recibió el permiso para adquirir la colección, principalmente compuesta por libros en español, y la trajo a su sede en Cleveland. Partes del edificio donde el Centro está ubicado fueron reacondicionadas como una biblioteca, construyendo estantes para dar cabida a la gran colección, la cual está valorada actualmente en más de $85,000.00.

Por cuanto: Ministerios Educacionales Hispanos en EE.UU., como la voz oficial de la educación a todo nivel en el contexto latino de la Iglesia de Dios y como agencia nacional de la División de Educación, conmemora los esfuerzos sacrificiales realizados a través de la historia de más de 65 años, consistentes en el fomento e iniciación de oportunidades de desarrollo ministerial, formación integral permanente, discipulado y educación general; y
Por cuanto: Deseamos cumplir con una de las tareas misionales más destacadas de USA MEH que es la pasión santa por perpetuar doctrinas y prácticas bíblicas pentecostales sanas a través de una identidad cultural hispana estadounidense que manifieste un testimonio fiel ante Dios, el prójimo y la sociedad en general; y
Por cuanto: Afirmamos que USA MEH sirve como enlace oficial para dirigir, facilitar y unificar la educación en una plataforma cooperativa con el apoyo de las ocho regiones hispanas en Estados Unidos y otros grupos de alcance hispano, de manera que se amplíen tanto iniciativas como programas ministeriales, teológicos y de educación general para enfrentar los desafíos culturales, religiosos y morales de las generaciones latinas; y

Por cuanto: Destacamos la importancia de impactar estratégicamente a todo hispano mediante el reconocimiento de experiencias espirituales de héroes de la fe de Cristo impresas en la literatura académica, además de seguir traspasando los contenidos bíblico-doctrinales innegociables que ofrecen continuidad y solidez a los procesos de formación de creyentes y líderes siervos hispanos en este país; consecuentemente, el Seminario Teológico Pentecostal es una de las instituciones educativas de nuestro movimiento cuya misión principal es preservar la herencia pentecostal, y habiendo manifestado su interés directo en contribuir con el cuidado del legado de esta colección literaria latina;

David Stephens, proclamo el TRASLADO OFICIAL DE LA BIBLIOTECA DE USA MEH, antes en el Instituto Ministerial Hispano, a su nuevo hogar en el Centro para Estudios Latinos del Seminario Teológico Pentecostal de la Iglesia de Dios, en Cleveland, Tennessee, donde dicho patrimonio estará al cuidado y administración del Centro, proveyendo acceso a todos los hispanos de la Iglesia de Dios y denominaciones hermanas que estén estudiando en alguna de nuestras instituciones y/o programas educativos.
