Cricks Inducted Into Hall of Prophets
Cleveland, TN–Robert and Jeanette Crick’s chaplaincy, care, pastoral and educational ministries in the Church of God spans more than 57 years. Today, at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, they were honored with induction into the prestigious Hall of Prophets.
Induction into the Hall of Prophets is reserved for ministers whose service to Jesus Christ and the Church of God has been meritorious. A very important feature of the Hall of Prophets is the establishment of a scholarship in honor of the nominee which will be a perpetual source of funding for students preparing for ministry at PTS.
The ceremony, held in the Cross Chapel at PTS, featured messages from key leaders prominent in the Crick’s ministry and included professor and prison chaplain Betty Standifer, retired Army chaplain Calvin Eastham, Lee University Professor Rickie Moore, former Church of God General Overseer Lamar Vest, and president of Valor Christian College Jimmy DuPree. Presentations were given by the Crick’s children David, Jonne, and Dale, special music was offered by Max Morris, and PTS President Steven Land made the official presentation.
The Crick’s ministry opportunities included the following assignments: Administrator for Editorial Evangelica (Latin American Ministries), pastorates in Tennessee, Army Chaplaincy, and upon retirement from the Army, 36 years in Cleveland, Tennessee serving as Administrative Assistant for the General Department of Education, Professor and Administrator at Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and Director of the Chaplains Commission.
As a Church of God Army chaplain, Dr. Crick served in combat in Vietnam and was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star for Valor medals, as well as other notable commendations and awards. Dr. Crick made more than 300 parachute jumps with various airborne units, including the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the 101st Airborne Division and Army Airborne School. He was awarded the Master Parachutist Wings.
While in the military, Chaplain Crick was selected for extensive clinical training, which led to his certification as a Full Supervisor with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. His most notable assignments in these specialized areas included the establishment of a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center, Fitzsimmons Army Hospital and the Clinical Pastoral Education and Counseling Center, Fort Benning, Ga.
Upon retiring from the Army in 1978, Dr. and Mrs. Crick became an important part of the early development of the Seminary and Chaplains Commission. Jeanette served in several administrative positions at the Seminary, while Robert helped develop many of the Seminary’s counseling, care and Ministry Formational courses and programs. This couple is best known for their vision for a chaplaincy ministry that would touch all segments of the church. Under their leadership, chaplaincy expanded around the world; with thousands of full time and community service chaplains in the military, prisons, hospitals, college and university campuses, nursing homes, industries and many other areas of society. Dr. Crick was the senior editor of many chaplaincy books, manuals, and courses. His book, Outside the Gates, has been translated into several languages and is a primary text for chaplaincy courses at seminaries, Bible colleges and chaplaincy agencies in many countries.
Dr. Crick is a graduate of Vanderbilt University (M/Divinity) and Emory University (D/Ministries) and is currently professor of the Seminary’s Endowed Chair of Benevolence, Compassion and Care.
