South Georgia Launches Ministerial Development Initiative
The Church of God in South Georgia has taken a huge step forward in the training of its ministers for the 21st century.
South Georgia Administrative Bishop Dr. Stephen Darnell, asked Dr. Daniel Tomberlin, chairman of the State Board of Ministerial Development, to propose a ministerial training ministry for the region. From their discussion and input from others, the region will launch its Ministerial Development Initiative in the fall.
The Ministerial Development Initiative will provide seminars where ministers will meet once-a-month to discuss biblical, doctrinal, and ministerial issues based upon what they have studied in their Certificate In Ministerial Studies (CIMS) courses. The leadership believes the Initiative will provide opportunities for its ministers to further develop skills for ministry and to establish stronger bonds of friendship.
Bishop Darnell said, “We believe so strongly in the Ministerial Development Initiative that we are providing a 50 percent scholarship toward the Certificate In Ministerial Studies courses for the ministers who participate. At the conclusion of the studies, the ministers will earn the Certificate In Ministerial Studies (CIMS). Even more important, they will be better trained to build strong churches and expand the kingdom of God.”
