Pentecostal Theological Seminary Hosting Clarence J. Abbott Lectures
February 24, 2015–With snow blanketing the Cleveland, Tennessee area today, the Pentecostal Theological Seminary has altered the schedule for the 13th annual Clarence J. Abbott Lectures in Biblical Studies. The lectures will now be given on Wednesday, February 25 in Knight Hall and Thursday, February 26, in Cross Memorial Chapel at the Seminary. The theme of the lectures is “A Pentecostal Theology of Worship and the Book of Revelation.”
The Clarence J. Abbott Lectures in Biblical Studies are sponsored by The Clarence J. Abbott Endowed Chair of Bibical Studies. Funded by Fred and Nellie Abbott, David and Linda Abbott, family and friends, the chair was established to promote the ministry and foster the education and preparation of ministers, with a strong emphasis on church planting.
Featured lecturer for the two-day series is Dr. Melissa L. Archer, assistant professor of Biblical Studies at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. She will present her first lecture, “In the Spirit on the Lord’s Day: Worship in the Apocalypse” on Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. The second lecture, entitled “The Apocalypse as a Resource for a Pentecostal Theology of Worship” will be offered on February 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Cross Memorial Chapel. Both lectures are open to the public.
Melissa Archer has taught at Southeastern University since 2011. Prior to this, she taught at Pentecostal Theological Seminary, Lee University, and Ashland Theological
Seminary. She received her Ph.D. from Bangor University (Wales, UK). She is an Exhorter with the Church of God, and has spoken at several churches and women’s conferences.
The Wednesday lecture will include a box lunch. Those wishing to attend who are not current students are asked to call the Seminary at 423-478-1131 and leave a message on the receptionist’s voicemail (press “0”) to indicate attendance, so adequate preparations prepared to provide lunch.
