Parkway Church Dedicates New Property
Sevierville, TN–The Parkway Church of God congregation in Sevierville, Tennessee celebrated the dedication of their newly-acquired church property on Sunday, April 26 during their morning worship service.
Parkway Church of God was officially organized in 1962 as the Park Road Church of God with 107 members on the campus of the Church of God Home for Children, now known as the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home. The new congregation soon built a church facility on the Children’s Home campus with the address of 440 Parkway, which is how the congregation came to be known as “Parkway Church of God.” In 2008, the congregation purchased a church property less than a mile away at 661 Parkway. They remained at this location until relocating to the current property at 1103 Dolly Parton Parkway.
The property was purchased on December 30, 2014 from Ron and Betty Madison Ogle. The Ogles were recognized during the dedication for their generosity in making the purchase of the property possible. Other special guests included Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters and State Representative Dale Carr. The guest speaker was Bishop David Griffis, Assistant General Overseer of the Church of God.
The new church site is located adjacent to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Airport and the Tennessee Museum of Aviation. It was originally purchased and developed as a church property by New Hope Church of God, and later sold to Evergreen Church (PCA). Parkway Church of God is now the third congregation to utilize the property for church purposes.
The new location also houses the Parkway Church of God Child Care Center, which is licensed by the State of Tennessee to care for up to 250 children who are six weeks old and older (until they turn thirteen years old). The license approves Parkway for before and after school programs. Summer programs are also available. The main structure on the property includes a multi-purpose auditorium, a youth auditorium with game room and café, an indoor children’s playground, classrooms, office space, and a kitchen area with cafeteria. There is also an outdoor children’s playground adjacent to the main structure.
Pastor Philip Morris said, “We are so thankful for the opportunity to utilize this property for Christ and for His kingdom.”
