Community Service Chaplains Respond to Nepal Earthquake

The Church of God Chaplains Commission has reported that a number of Community Service Chaplains from the Caribbean were some of the first to respond to the devastating earthquake which recently took place in Nepal. Chaplain Ismael Ponce who coordinates Community Service Chaplaincy in the Hispanic Caribbean has continued to update the Chaplains Commission with regular reports from the devastated country.

Chaplains Victor Ortega and Edna Cardona from Puerto Rico are coordinating the efforts of the Caribbean team. Both of these chaplains, like hundreds of other Church of God Chaplains, are trained in disaster response and have been certified by the International Association of Community Service Chaplains to effectively respond to natural disasters.

“Our chaplains are presently working to take homeless children from the streets,” stated Jake Popejoy, coordinator of the Church of God Chaplains Commission. “Our chaplains in Nepal are helping and giving emotional and spiritual support to the people. They are giving food water and other help to these children and many people now living in the streets.”

“The Church of God is extraordinarily blessed to have men and women of faith who are willing and able to go to the other side of the world to help people of different faiths, languages and cultures,” Popejoy continued. “And to do this in the name of the Christ who died for all.”
