Thirty-One Become Community Service Chaplains

May 30, 2015 marked the 40th commencement ceremony of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary. The date also marked the 4th commencement for Community Service Chaplains (CSC) who received Certificates in Chaplaincy Ministries or Diplomas in Chaplaincy Ministries.

“We are so proud of the 31 Community Service Chaplains who crossed the platform at this distinguished observance to receive their diplomas,” stated Dr. Jake Popejoy, coordinator of the Community Services Chaplains program for the Church of God. Eighteen chaplains were present for the occasion, while thirteen received their diplomas “in absentia.”

“The commitment of these chaplains to diligently work, study, and practice their skills is duly noted by receiving their well-earned diplomas and certificates,” Popejoy continued. “Community Service Chaplains are volunteers in every sense of the word. They volunteer to travel to distant states and countries at their own expense and they volunteer to be educated in their discipline, again at their own expense.” Popejoy said graduates came from several nations, states, and cultures. Among the recipients were chaplains from South Africa, Washington state, Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, Florida, and Tennessee.

“Community Service Chaplains continue to volunteer to serve their faith group, their communities, and their nation,” Popejoy concluded. “Congratulations to all of our chaplains, but on this day, especially to our faithful Community Service Chaplains.
