Teen Talent Wraps Up Week of Activity
August 7, 2015–Cleveland, TN—The Church of God Youth and Discipleship Department tonight concludes five days of competition between state and regional winners of Teen Talent with a climactic awards ceremony on the campus of Lee University.
Conducted every two years, this is the third time Church of God Teen Talent competition has been held on the Lee campus. Previously it ran simultaneously with the biennial Church of God General Assembly in whatever city the assembly was held. San Antonio 2008 was the last competition at a general assembly with the event moving to Lee’s campus in 2011.
“This year the logistics of Teen Talent have functioned better than they ever have,” stated Director of Youth and Discipleship Gary Lewis. “No doubt, moving Teen Talent to the Lee campus was the best decision. Everything is better: the venues, the flow, the housing, activities, and most importantly, the cost. Now that the state youth directors are acquainted with how the venue functions from year to year, it is much easier for them to plan for bringing their groups.”
Lewis complimented the leadership at Lee University and their willingness to accommodate the thousands of student competitors, parents, chaperones and youth leaders descending on the campus. This year, all competitions were fully conducted at Lee venues. In 2013 it was necessary to conduct some portions of Teen Talent at nearby North Cleveland Church of God. Last year, Lee University completed an extensive renovation of the former First Baptist Church of Cleveland turning it into a 650-seat performance hall. Music competition is now conducted in the newly-christened Pangle Hall. Drama was held at Conn Center, Bible competition took place in Dixon Center and art winners were displayed in the lobby of the Science and Math Complex.
During the week students lived in the residence halls and various activities were held in the evening on the campus.
Teen Talent concludes this evening with a festive awards ceremony conducted outdoors on the lawn of the Math and Science Complex. A complete list of winners will be posted next week on the Youth and Discipleship website, www.cogyouth.org.
