Discipleship Seminars Being Conducted in Sri Lanka

World Missions Assignment Representative and Coordinator of Global Chinese Ministries Hong Yang and his wife, Esther, ministered recently in Sri Lanka.

Twelve former Communist Maoist, Buddhists, and Hindus came to Jesus in Mannar, one of the poorest regions of Sri Lanka. The couple, along with their missions team, conducted disciple-training seminars for several hours. On a previous day, 78 new souls (war widows) accepted Jesus as Lord of their lives. Among the Tamil people, 41 came to faith in Jesus.

Sri Lanka is a strong Buddhist stronghold, but according to a latest report, the Christian church has grown from 2 percent several years ago to 17 percent! Much persecution still takes place, though, and one pastor was sent to prison 14 separate times. It served only to make him more passionate to minister for the Kingdom of God.

Other activities for Hong and Esther included preaching at a large church in Negombo, and more disciple-training instruction for 70 Bible students at the Elijah Institute established years ago by Morris Cerrulo. After ministering in Sri Lanka, the Yangs visited Nepal. Continuing with the venue of preaching and conducting leadership conferences, Drs Hong and Esther saw many healed of sickness and countless others received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with fire, power, and boldness to evangelize in the Himalayan Hindu/Buddhist kingdom, where only .02 percent of the population is Christian.

Pray for wisdom, power, and boldness, along with protection and provision from the Lord for the Yangs. Hong sent a great Jewish proverb for us all to apply …

I yearned for strength, and God gave me difficulties so that I would become stronger.

I longed for wisdom, and God gave me problems so as to develop my capacity to deal with them.

I yearned for courage, and God gave me dangers so as to develop the ability to overcome.

I desired wealth, and God gave me the physical and mental stamina so as to work work hard.

I longed for love, and God gave me troubled people so that I can go and help them!
