Phil Stacey to Host Conference in Kansas City on How to Defend the Faith
American Idol finalist Phil Stacey will host the Kansas City Truth Conference on Aug. 27 featuring noted Christian author and speaker Josh McDowell, who will coach attendees on how to respond to tough questions about Christianity.
The conference will focus on apologetics, a branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity. “Christian values are questioned by secular society every day,” said McDowell. “As Christians, we need to be able to respond to sincere inquiries about our faith with knowledge and confidence.”
Conference sponsor Reach Beyond, an international media and medical-based outreach ministry, said that learning how to defend the faith is simply the first step in spreading God’s Word. The next step is carrying that message to people locally and globally.
“What good is the knowledge if you don’t do anything with it?” asked Stacey, who works with Reach Beyond to support their mission to reach those who have never heard the gospel. “You should share your knowledge and your faith, interact with people, be a light in your community and your world.”
The conference will be held at Lenexa Christian Center, 17500 W. 87th St., Lenexa, Kan., 66219, beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27. The conference also is being sponsored by radio stationLife 88.5 and Logos, a sacred-book research site.
Stacey said he first got the idea of hosting the conference when he attended a similar event several months ago in Moline, Ill. “As I listened, I thought that everyone in my church should hear what I was hearing.”
The conference will feature a number of noted Christian apologists, as well as special music by Stacey. Speakers will include apologist Charlie Campbell; Eric Hovind, president of Creation Today & God Quest Inc.; Gene Calderon, chapter director for Ratio Christi on the campus of Purdue University — Calumet in Hammond, Ind.; former pastor Rich McGough, who is writing a book for use as an apologetics training manual for local churches; and more.
