The Church of God ‘First Lady: Paula Hill
The Church of God is blessed to have Paula Hill as its new First Lady. Her warmth and compassion will beautifully complement her husband, Tim Hill, as he leads the church as General Overseer.
“I feel honored God is allowing us to be a vehicle for what he is doing,” she said.
The Hills met when he came to her church for a revival. They were married five months later. Throughout their ministry, Paula has stood alongside her husband as he served as a prominent evangelist, pastor, state overseer, Executive Committee member, and World Missions director. Paula calls the previous four years in World Missions some of the most rewarding, humbling years of her life.
One of the greatest joys of Paula’s life is being the mother to her three adult daughters – Melinda (Tim) Maness, Brittany Hill, and Tara (Justin) Sharpe – and Nana to her grandchildren – Brayden (11), Hailey (8), and Lucas (16 months). At the first of August, the family will expand when Tara gives birth to her first child.
For all of her adult life, Paula’s priorities have been her husband and children. Although she does not have a pulpit ministry, she is a faithful partner to her husband. She stayed home to raise her daughters, a decision she does not regret. Family comes first for Paula.
She still finds time for hobbies now and then. Her favorite is sewing. She grew up on her mother’s lap, watching as she operated her machine. Paula also excels at fixing things around the house, a skill she attributes to her father, a contractor. She recently built a pantry for one of her daughters, and has even dabbled in air conditioner repair.
Paula has written two devotional books, Heart Songs, and Grace Notes, which she co-wrote with Melinda.
Her focus in ministry is to help each member of the body of Christ feel confident in his or her unique purpose. Paula said, “I have such a passion for women to realize we’re responsible for what God made us to be. We need to celebrate each other and not say, ‘I wish that had happened to me.’”
Paula’s advice to the women of the Church of God is, “Be yourself. Be who God called you to be. As long as you’re functioning as the part of the body you’re supposed to be, you aren’t insignificant.”
