Operation Compassion Continues La. Relief Effort
As the flood waters recede in some sections of Baton Rouge, La., Operation Compassion began its second week of disaster relief efforts. Last week, nine semi-trailers were delivered loaded with supplies and products necessary to begin clean-up and to sustain survivors.
This week, Operation Compassion is sending eight more semi-trailers of products and supplies. In all, Operation Compassion will have sent more than one million pounds of product to the Baton Rouge area. In addition, Operation Compassion provided their shower trailer, so the survivors can refresh themselves after a hard day’s work. The shower trailer also has a washer and dryer so survivors can have clean clothing as well.
As part of Operation Compassion’s relief efforts, partners are also donating product such as trailers floor loaded with cereal; others have sent bottled water, cleaning supplies, compassion buckets, blankets and the list continues.
“During any disaster there has to be a distribution point that is close to the affected area but not endangered by the disaster,” stated OC President Dave Lorency. “Such is the case of Pastor Keith Hawes and the Maranatha Fellowship Church. They are the main disaster relief site in the area, receiving and distributing products and supplies to more than 15 other sites and countless numbers of individual survivors using box trucks and pick-up trucks to shuttle product. In fact, their site alone has served more than 5,000 people per day and has housed and fed 100 volunteers that have come to assist in the relief effort including many that have lost everything. Pastor Hawes and his church members have done outstanding work the last week and will continue into the future.”
