Retired Ministers and Widows Appreciation Sunday Is October 30
This Sunday, October 30, 2016, Church of God congregations are being asked to designate a special love offering exclusively for aged ministers and widows.
In 1992 the Church of God General Assembly declared one Sunday a year to focus on honoring those who have gone before us, blazing the trails of ministry through evangelism, pastoring and church planting. These saints of God are worthy of recognition and support and this day, called Reformation Sunday, is the venue in which to do it.
Church of God General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill is asking pastors across the nation to give high priority to the offering this year. One-fourth of the offering will be used to help fund financial assistance to aged ministers with emergency needs. The remainder will be given as a special love gift from the church to retired ministers and widows at Christmas.
“We distribute every penny of this offering and don’t keep anything back for expenses,” Hill stated on a video, which is available on the Church of God website for viewing and download. Pastors are encouraged to download the video and show it in services this coming Sunday. Hill said he hopes enough is raised to distribute a minimum of $100 to every ministerial couple or widow. The address for the website is www.churchofgod.org. At the site, there will also be an option to give directly to the fund.
Donations and offerings received for retired ministers and widows may be mailed directly to Church of God International Offices, Reformation Sunday Offering, P.O. Box 2430, Cleveland, TN 37320.
