‘Africa Day of Prayer’ Set for April 15
Peter Thomas, Field Director for the Church of God in Africa, will join Christopher Sabale, the Prayer Coordinator for Africa, on Saturday, April 15, along with other leaders in the nation of Botswana for the first ever All Africa Day of Prayer.
The continent-wide call to prayer rose out of a decision made by the African Council and national leaders at a Continental Congress last year that involved Church of God General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill, who was then serving as director of Church of God World Missions.
Thomas noted, “In light of the challenge before us, the battle for the continent of Africa, the massive need for evangelism and church-planting, we must pray – and we must pray as never before!”
Almost all the nations on the continent now have a national prayer coordinator, according to the denominational prayer coordinator, P. Douglas Small. Last year, in Zambia and Togo, national overseers and prayer leaders were gathered for prayer mobilization and training. Fifty nations across Africa will be involved in the prayer effort.
Churches, prayer leaders and intercessors, in the United States and around the world are asked to pause on Saturday, and remember Africa in prayer, this Saturday, and on Sunday.
“We had no idea, when the date was set, that it would fall on Easter Sunday in 2017,” Small noted. “For us,” Thomas reflected, “it is a good day – we are praying for a kind of spiritual resurrection across Africa: that the forgotten continent will be visited by God with a mighty spiritual awakening.”
Small said, a special time of prayer for Africa will take place in the Saturday Night Fire Call, this Saturday night, April 15. The number is 641-715-3580, Access Code 446086#. The call takes place at 9 p.m., EST.
