Executive Council in Session This Week
Cleveland, TN—April 25, 2018–The International Executive Council of the Church of God began their regularly scheduled April session Tuesday at the International Offices Leadership and Communications Center.
The Council of Eighteen, together with the Executive Committee, comprises the Executive Council. All 23 members were present for Tuesday’s deliberations, which consisted primarily of culling through the months of work by the General Council Agenda Committee (GCAC), chaired by Tennessee Administrative Bishop and Council member Mitch Corder.
General Overseer Tim Hill opened the Tuesday morning session with a sincere call to prayer.
“I have been praying over this gathering for weeks,” Hill told the Council. “I take it very seriously. While everyone in this room is my friend, you are also my councilors.” Hill launched a “40 Days of Prayer and Fasting” on April 22 with the Executive Council meeting as the starting focal point. Hill was the first guest on the five-minute daily Facebook Live program taking place at noon EST every weekday until May 31 on the Church of God’s Facebook page (COGHQ).
On Tuesday night, members of the Executive Council gathered for a fellowship dinner where the five members of the Council of Eighteen set to roll off the Council due to tenure limitations were recognized and honored. The five included Council Chairman Tony D. Stewart, pastor of CityLife Church in Tampa, Fla.; Kip A. Box, overseer of Michigan; G. Dennis McGuire, evangelist and former general overseer; Jimmy Smith, former overseer of Florida; and Nick Park, overseer of Ireland.
By mid-day on Wednesday, the Council has worked through nearly two dozen items for consideration by the General Council. When the meeting is adjourned, the Executive Council will have completed the final version of the General Council Agenda, which will be released in electronic form within the required 30 days prior to the General Assembly.
