Events Planned for Black History Awareness
Cleveland, TN—Intercultural Advancement Ministries (IAM) is sponsoring events in conjunction with Black History Awareness month in February.
IAM was formed after the last General Assembly as a combination of the former Church of God Black Ministries, Portuguese, and Multi-Cultural Ministries offices. The focus of IAM is to be intentional about how to approach intercultural ministry advancement, suggesting strategies that support inclusivity through varied evangelism and discipleship strategies and activities, and identifying collaborative ministry opportunities within the Church of God, with other denominations and with the community. Bishop Doyle Scott is Director of the new initiative.
The primary event for Church of God congregations is Black History Awareness Sunday set for February 10, 2019. Leading up to that Sunday, the previous week there will be two events held in Cleveland, Tennessee.
On Wednesday, February 6, the Church of God International Offices will host Dr. Michael D. Reynolds as special keynote speaker during the regularly scheduled chapel service. Reynolds is a former pastor and was recently appointed Director of Ministerial Development for the Church of God. The chapel service will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST and will be streamed live at churchofgod.org.
The next day the Pentecostal Theological Seminary will conduct a chapel service in the Cross Chapel where the Evangelistic Singers from Lee University will be special musical guests. They will be followed by keynote speaker Bishop Danny Kyei-Poakwa. The service begins at 11:00 a.m. EST and, like the International Offices chapel, the services are open to the public.
