Hill Calls for Prayer as Hurricane Laura Hits Texas, Louisiana
Cleveland, TN—Church of God General Overseer Timothy M. Hill issued a call for prayer on Wednesday for all those in the path of Hurricane Laura. This massive storm made landfall on Thursday morning as a deadly Category 4 hurricane over Cameron, La., where nine feet of storm surge was reported. The hurricane passed directly over Lake Charles, La. on Thursday morning with sustained winds of up to 100 mph. The potential for massive destruction as far as 30 miles inland is projected.
“We have church family all across this area of Southwest Louisiana and the coastal areas of Texas,” Hill stated. “I call upon the Church of God family around the world to pray for those that may be impacted by this massive storm. This part of our country was heavily damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and now faces another massive storm. Our church family in this area, as well as millions of others, need our prayers at this time.”
Led by Operation Compassion, God’s Pit Crew, and Men & Women of Action, all disaster relief entities within the Church of God have been preparing for the last several days for the storm. At least four large truckloads of supplies are scheduled to depart within the next 24 to 48 hours to the impacted areas. Other supplies and equipment will be sent as soon as the local officials give clearance.
Secure donations towards the hurricane relief efforts are welcomed and can be made by clicking here. While contributions are necessary, prayers for those impacted are most needed. Please pray for God‘s protection and provision for those along the Louisiana and Texas coastal areas.
Updates from the affected areas will be posted as warranted.
