Lee University to Celebrate Homecoming 2021
Cleveland, TN–Lee University’s 2021 Homecoming weekend is one month away, scheduled for Nov. 5-6. After an entirely virtual homecoming celebration last year, the Lee family is once again invited to gather with old and new friends in person for a weekend full of Lee events.
“We are so excited to welcome our alumni back home,” said Dr. Susan Ashcraft, director of alumni relations. “We have so much planned for the whole Lee family to enjoy throughout the weekend. There will be a lot of reminiscing, laughing with friends, and making new memories!”
This year’s Homecoming will feature traditional events such as basketball games and club breakfasts, but it will also celebrate some new events and bringing back old classics, such as the homecoming parade.
“The Homecoming Parade has been absent from Homecoming activities since the ‘80s,” said Ashcraft. “We are also featuring alums who own small businesses and their products in our Flame Fair on Saturday. And of course, the Conn Celebration on Friday evening.”
Honoring a Legacy: Paul and Darlia Conn is set to recognize and celebrate the 34-year presidential tenure of the Conns, an event that was rescheduled this year due to the 2020 pandemic.
There are dozens of events planned for the busy weekend, and it all begins with check-in on Friday morning. Alumni will want to be sure to check in as this is where they’ll receive their Homecoming 2021 T-shirt. Those not arriving until Saturday can check in that morning as well.
From the 1918 Alumnae Council luncheon to open academic classes across campus, Friday has plenty of events for alumni to take part in. There will be a baseball game and the annual Volley for a Cure volleyball match for Flames athletics fans to cheer at and attend. The Lee Class of 1970 and 1971 will have their 50th anniversary reunion, and there will be various department dessert receptions on Friday.
Friday’s festivities close with a Lee Theatre production of “Sense and Sensibility” and a celebration of Paul and Darlia Conn’s 34-year impact and legacy at Lee.
The Greek service club breakfasts will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. for a time of reminiscing and reconnecting. From then on, Saturday is packed with events for alumni and their families. There will be a tailgate party, Flame Fair, and a Homecoming Parade before the Flames women’s and men’s basketball teams preview their seasons with exhibition games at 12 and 2, respectively. At halftime, the 2021 Homecoming Court will be presented. After basketball, there will be a short film showcase, another “Sense and Sensibility” production, and the Chancellor’s Choice Concert.
Throughout the weekend, attendees will enjoy the well-known tradition of the yellow umbrellas hanging over the Pedestrian Mall.
In addition to welcoming hundreds of alumni back to campus, the Cleveland community is invited to celebrate this year’s Homecoming events with the Flames at the Chancellor’s Choice Concert, theatre performances, and athletic events.
