Alazar’s Story: “God Will Help” Through YWEA

With the help of children, youth, churches, and pastors, Church of God Youth World Evangelism Action (YWEA 2011) will “Lift the Cross and Raise the Children” in Ethiopia.

On January 25, 2005, a baby boy entered the Ethiopian life of poverty and despair. He, however, was marked to face far more than the typical hardships of hunger and drudgery; he would never walk. With an asymmetrical face, terrible deformities to his legs, and one foot facing backward, some of the first sounds he heard were the accusations of family members and friends blaming the parents, while still others stated it was God’s punishment. Knowing they had no money, no doctor, and no support group, his parents named their fragile baby boy Alazar, a name with
Hebrew roots meaning, “God will help.”

Through the children’s ministry of the Harvest Church of God, the family received health care, counseling, education and prayer for their son. Through the donations of people like you and programs of our church, Alazar received numerous surgeries, braces, better nutrition, and special shoes made just for him! It hasn’t been an easy road. For most of his life, he struggled to even crawl. Now, Alazar can not only stand, but with the help of his little crutches, Alazar can now walk!

Alazar’s mom and dad now serve the Lord. His mother works at the church school/orphanage, and his dad helps take care of the meager building and yard. Alazar loves his school and church. He is a very good student because the church is helping to Raise the Children of Ethiopia!
