Christian Concert To Benefit Victims of Joplin Tornado
Thousands are expected to attend a Christian concert today that will benefit victims of the Joplin tornado.
The Christian group Mercy Me is headlining the Restore Fest, a charity concert from which Convoy of Hope will receive part of the proceeds to help tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri.
“It’s really about giving people hope and bringing healing to their lives, restoring them to that position, or as close to that position as they were prior to the tornado,” explains Convoy of Hope spokesman Jeff Nene.
He tells OneNewsNow some people will be okay in the long run because they have insurance. But the proceeds will be used to help people who have needs that are not being met.
“We’re looking for people who aren’t okay in the long term, that maybe were uninsured or underinsured, and maybe have not received benefits from FEMA for whatever reason,” Nene notes.
Another group to benefit from the concert is Samaritan’s Purse. Spokesman Jason Sutherland says his group will use the funds to help build homes.
“It is certainly not an inexpensive proposition,” he points out. “That’s the phase that we’re heading into in Joplin, and we’re prepared to be there for quite some time to come,” so those funds are going to go into disaster relief to help fund this rebuilding program.
Samaritan’s Purse and Convoy of Hope have both been on the ground in Joplin since the deadly tornado ripped through the city on May 22. Mandisa and Hawk Nelson, along with several other artists and groups, are also involved in the fundraising effort.
