Have you noticed “the rise of the Nones” in your community?

The National Science Foundation recently awarded Lee University a $600,000 grant that will provide scholarships and educational opportunities to Lee students majoring in science and mathematics. The award was made through the federal agency’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (S-STEM) program. This grant will fund a new Lee program which will be called “iMASS Scholars.”

Last Thursday in a historic vote, the U.S. Senate passed a reconciliation bill that guts major portions of Obamacare and bars Planned Parenthood from receiving Federal tax dollars in Medicaid reimbursements. This would effectively defund Planned Parenthood to the tune of nearly $500,000,000 each year. The final vote was 52-47.

For many years, the annual Christ’s Birthday Offering has been received from individuals and churches across the United States to fund disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. While the plain of tragedy widens, so does the conscientiousness of those who contribute to the cause.

This morning when I bought a newspaper in the Orlando airport, the man who rang up my purchase greeted me with a bashful smile. The name on his employee badge was “ZIAD.” I always try to guess where people are from, but his name wasn’t familiar. Was he from Lebanon? Jordan? Egypt?

I have ridden the two horses of business and ministry simultaneously for the past 40 years. While I have not always executed my responsibilities perfectly on both horses, the ride has never been less than interesting, to say the least.
