As the flood waters recede in some sections of Baton Rouge, La., Operation Compassion began its second week of disaster relief efforts. Last week, nine semi-trailers were delivered loaded with supplies and products necessary to begin clean-up and to sustain survivors.
During the 76th Church of God International General Assembly held last month in Nashville, Bishop David S. Ramirez became the first Latino elected to the International Executive Committee as Third Assistant General Overseer.
Pardon Ndhlovu, a native of Zimbabwe and active member at the Stevens Creek Church of God in Augusta, Georgia, will be competing in the Olympic men’s marathon set to take place this Sunday, August 21. It will be the final day of competition for the Olympic Games, which have been on-going for over two weeks in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Church of God General Overseer Tim Hill travelled with a delegation to flood-ravaged Louisiana to assess first-hand the critical needs of churches, pastors, and their congregations.
Since last weekend flooding increased in southern Louisiana to near record levels as thousands were displaced from their homes and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged. As rain continued to fall at record rates more than 7,000 emergency rescues of stranded homeowners and drivers were performed by first responders.
Rev. O. Wayne Chambers was recently honored with a resolution of appreciation during the General Council at last month’s Church of God International General Assembly in Nashville. The resolution was presented by immediate past general overseer, Mark Williams.
