Do You Long for a Story of Your Own Encounter with God’s Power?
Pastor Phillip Corbett was tired of hearing the success stories of other pastors. In 1985 he and his wife had moved to Corrigan, Texas, to plant a church. But after years of labor they saw minimal results. One day, in frustration, he began to pray a simple prayer: “Lord, I’m tired of hearing stories that belong to others; would you please give me some stories of my own?” This desperate prayer changed his life and ministry.
The Lord heard Phil’s prayer and He began to move. After three extended revivals and witnessing many lives being touched and transformed, Phil sensed a call to take this message to other churches and pastors. His congregation gave him the green light to travel so he could share what he had learned about entering into the presence of God. According to Phil, hunger for God must precede manifestations of His presence and power.
But there is a problem: instead of revival the Church is experiencing reversal. Pastor Corbett says, “The churches in America and Europe have lost ground. America is quickly becoming post-Christian. People are leaving the ministry and looking for something else to do. Churches are closing or have ceased to grow. Entire denominations are seeing a decrease in membership.” But there is hope, he continues, “I believe God is preparing a re-energized Church, one like the world has never seen, which is about to emerge, ushering a revival of global proportions.”
Running With Your Second Wind is written with three types of readers in mind: Christians who are wanting to experience God’s manifest presence and power for the first time, pastors who are discouraged and burned out and need to have their vision renewed, and Christians who are ready to be a part of the coming global revival. John Kilpatrick, who experienced revival firsthand at Brownsville, agrees, “Phillip Corbett has excelled in not only inspiring us about God’s presence and glory, but he has skillfully informed us. His new book, Running With Your Second Wind, made me smile, made me remember, made me hungry to catch a second wind and to hoist my sails for a fresh move of God’s Spirit.”
